BECOMING A TUTOR

Gain teaching experience at a fun summer course whilst enjoying the Italian culture in a beautiful part of Italy near the Adriatic coast.

Tutors are provided accommodation with families of the course participants and there are lots of exciting outings organized.

You will decide on a programme with the Course Coordinator, prepare lessons for the mornings and run the afternoon activities.

The courses are attended by Italian children between the ages of 6 and 12 with the aim of helping them to improve their English by putting it into practise.  No Italian is required as the courses are conducted in English only.

Some experience of working with children is preferred as well as a passion for teaching and a positive attitude.

All expenses are covered whilst staying with your host family and compensation for each two-week course is provided. If this is the kind of opportunity you are interested in, send your CV and a covering letter stating why you are interested and would be suitable for this position to: liveenglishcamps@gmail.com

FAQs for Tutors

We answer your most frequently asked questions

Will I have my own room with the family I stay with?

Yes, this is a requirement.

Can my host family cater for special dietary requirements?

Yes, we advise them of this. Each family is provided with a profile form for their tutor with a photo.

I’m allergic to cats/dogs, can I have a family without pets?

Yes of course! Each family is interviewed and completes a profile so we know if they have animals at home. Once your family is selected we will give you a copy of their profile.

Do the families speak English?

Most of them speak some English, some very well. They might be a bit nervous about speaking as they may not have spoken for a while so we ask you to be patient and perhaps speak slower than usual at least at the start.

Will I have time to do what I want in my free time?

During the week you will spend most of the time outside of working at the courses with your host family. They are keen to get to know you and show you around, especially at the weekends. You can organize to catch up with other tutors at the weekends but you cannot use the house like a hotel, coming and going as you please, especially after a certain hour in the evening. Most of these families have young children and so you need to be willing to fit in with their family life. The most important thing is to speak to them about what you would like to do.They may have already made plans to take you to Florence!

How often will I get paid?

You will be paid before the last day of each course.

Do I need to speak Italian to work the courses?

No! You will only be speaking English to the kids.  The Course Coordinator at each course speaks Italian so she can help kids or parents if they need to speak Italian.

How can I teach Italian kids English if I don’t speak their language?

You need to keep it simple and use gestures and visual aids. Some of the kids will pick it up quicker than the others and will help them. It’s really important to only speak English and once you get into the swing of things you will find it’s not that hard!

How many courses will I do in one summer?

It is preferable for the tutors selected to do the initial training together on the 6th of June and to do all 3 courses until the 17th of July.

Will the cost of my airfare be covered?

No, you need to cover the cost of getting there and from one course to another, but all of your costs whilst staying with the family will be covered by the family. If you want to do something on your own such as going to a Water park you cannot expect your host family to cover that cost.

You will be given two Live English t-shirts with the company logo. You can wear shorts/pants and sneakers. It gets hot here so dress accordingly!

Live English... Live your Dream!

My story

I started teaching English after moving to Italy from Australia in 2005. After working with various colleges in Italy and overseas, I decided to do my own thing and in 2014 I set up my own business. I believe that English is a language that should be lived, hence the name Live English. I organize summer courses and each summer tutors come to spend some time in this wonderful part of the world to work with me. They stay with the families whose children attend the courses and create amazing bonds that last a lifetime with these families, as well as with the children who attend the courses. I am also a primary school teacher involved in a bilingual programme at a school in Rimini and I feel very lucky to have this opportunity to make a difference in young people’s lives. Learning a language is much more than just getting the grammar right. The cultural exchanges and the enjoyment of learning are so important. My hope is that students here and tutors from overseas have an incredible experience at my courses and it opens their minds to the endless possibilities in this magnificent world!
